We woke up in another Walmart parking lot and put on some warm clothes – 42* outside! We were able to drive our RV into the Durango train station parking lot for $10. Train tickets were on the high side, but so worth it!
We took our seat on the train in an enclosed car and off we went. After about 20 minutes, we decided to check out the open air car behind us and ended up staying in that car for the duration of the trip. It was about a 3 1/2 hour ride through the mountains and passes, along the river and open valleys, and over bridges and on the edge of cliffs.
It was absolutely spectacular. The only downside was the amount of soot we got in our eyes!
Our favorite pics from the train ride:
Visited the little town of Silverton, Colorado for a couple of hours for lunch, shopping, hot chocolate, and stopped in at the Grand Imperial Hotel to relax in the giant chairs.
We took the 1 1/2 hour bus ride back down the mountain to have a different view and the bus driver was very knowledgeable of the history of the area and told us stories the whole way down.
Once back in Durango, we grabbed some dinner – and these shots – before we left and started the drive to Mesa Verde National Park.
